Outreachy Midpoint Review

Outreachy Midpoint Review

Wow! I'm halfway through my outreachy internship. I'd just like to take a minute to appreciate my mentors, Goutham Pacha Ravi and Victoria Martinez de la Cruz. They've been super helpful and they've made the internship easy and interesting.

I've been working on OpenStackSDK support for Manila. Contributing to Open Stack has been a milestone of learning, skill improvement and Networking. I've also learned how to ask for help when I'm stuck, which is not something I normally do because I'm usually shy.

I'd like to do a little review of my progress so far;

My first tasks were to get familiar with Open Stack Manila, OpenStack SDK, and to explore open manila patches to SDK. These involved reading lots of documentation and learning new things about manila and Open Stack in general. I was also able to refresh some manila patches to SDK.

The following week was manila bugsquash week, and I worked on a bug.

Next, I started working on OpenStack manila resources. so far, I have 10 resources ready for review :)

Challenges

I had a little challenge getting the functional testing right, but I think I've gotten a hang of it. Also, reviews on my patches have been coming slowly, mainly because my mentors are not core reviewers at Open Stack SDK, this has delayed the progress of the project.

Moving forward

In the coming weeks, I plan to write SDKs for more resources. And also, work on getting my patches merged.

So far, I think I've made a good progress, and I've really enjoyed working with the Open Stack community.
